Every year locals in a small southwest Colorado town amp up and put months of planning to action in celebration of Durango Snowdown. Every year the theme changes. This year the theme was centered around “Safari So Good”. Town was full of wild animals, witch doctors, hunters, and so much more. Locals really work hard along with small and large businesses alike to host and run hundreds of events over the course of five days.
Traditionally Snowdown has been geared toward the adult crowd (imagine Marti Gras in the winter), however over the past decade more and more events centered on the kids in town have come into play. Don’t get me wrong, there is still plenty of naughtiness after dark and there always will be, but during the day family fun can be found within a stones throw of Main Ave. As a parent this makes me happy and also shows what kind of community we are lucky enough to be a part of in Durango.
I went to a few events and took pictures when I did. They are here in this post.
