I am the first to admit that I am truly blessed in life. I live with three beautiful girls and I am constantly challenged in different ways by each one of them. They are everything to me. I wanted to take a page from my wife’s playbook and spend a day documenting these three in the traditional photojournalist style we have adopted in our wedding and event work. Nothing posed, just our real life in our home. Heidi does the same thing with her family shoots. If you haven’t seen her work check it out HERE. This was a great experience for me. It allowed be to observe and appreciate what I have. I can also offer this as an early Valentine’s gift to stay in the good graces of my wife who I somehow convinced I was good enough to marry. Thanks to Heidi for the last three pictures. Reading to the girls at night has been a tradition since day one.
Photography starts with what you know and ends with what you love.
I also had the opportunity (more than a year after the release) to finally get my hands on the Sony RX1 full frame compact camera. The experience was well worth the wait. The fixed f/2.0 35mm Carl Zeiss lens is magical and really works perfectly on the system it was built for. We shoot at 35mm for more than half of all our work, so the focal length is comfortable to me and also yields a traditional look in composition, which for me is preferred. I will not list all of the specifications as this is not a new release. See them HERE. I had the little camera all day and never reached for that cramped neck or stiff back our huge Nikons give me when shooting for a few hours. It is simple, elegant, and amazingly smart in practice. Sony is on the prowl with this system and recent updates giving professional results. See my friend Otto Schulze’s blog and the amazing wedding coverage he has done with this same system. He is the best example I can think of that proves this camera has the goods.
